Wrestlers Offer Bright Spot for Penn College Teams

The Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestling team offered the lone bright spot for winter sports teams over the past week as it won one of two matches, while the men's and women's basketball teams both went 0-3.

Flashback WrestlingThe Wildcats opened Penn State University Athletic Conference action with a 47-12 win over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Wednesday. Scoring falls were Kyle Sunseri, of Athens, at 141; Drew Zettle, of Spring Mills, at 149, and Tyler Myers, of Centre Hall, at 165. Derek Leiby, of Troy, recorded a technical fall at 157.

Saturday, on the road at Penn State DuBois, Penn College fell, 42-10, dropping it to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the PSUAC. Logan Gresock, of Wadsworth, Ohio, won by major decision at 184 to improve to 3-0. Alex Myers, of Horsham, scored a fall at 285.

Men's Basketball On Tuesday, Penn College fell to NCAA Division III King's College, 79-63, despite 12 points each from Gregory Gibbs, of Indian Head, Md.; Scott Fenton, of Dickson City; and Nicholas Deleon, of Bronx, N.Y.

In the Wyndham-Reading Tip-Off Tournament Friday at Albright College, Fenton scored 13 points and added six rebounds in a 91-55 loss to Albright. Jason Greenfield, of Wellsboro, added 12 points.

In Saturday's tournament consolation game, the Wildcats lost, 86-47. Jason Greenfield led the team with nine points as it dropped to 0-5 overall.

Women's Basketball Playing on the road Wednesday, Kierstin Steer, of South Williamsport, scored 14 points and Niesha Williams, of Loyalsock Township, added 12 ... but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell, 58-37.

In Saturday's first round of the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament at Susquehanna University, Penn College lost 99-49. Steer scored 21 points and Casey Braun, of Hughesville, added 13. Sunday against Penn State Altoona, in the consolation game of the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off, the Wildcats lost, 68-36. Braun scored 20 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team as Penn College fell to 0-5 for the season.

Men's Cross-CountryAfter a scoring correction, it was determined that the Wildcats placed eighth, not seventh, during the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championships at Lake Placid, N.Y., on Nov. 11.

Academic All-Americans Five cross-country runners and two women's volleyball players were named United States Collegiate Athletic Association Academic All-Americans. USCAA Academic All-Americans must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher to earn the accolade.

Runners honored were seniors Corvin Oberholzter, of Wellsboro, and Seth Beckman, of Linden; juniors Travis Cain, of Bloomsburg, and William Fuka, of Clifton, Va.; and freshman Daniel Flynn, of Blairstown, N.J. Oberholtzer and Beckman have made the team all four years and this is Cain's third straight year.

In women's volleyball, senior Lyndsey Smith, of Mechanicsburg, and sophomore Rachel Heller, of Allison Park, earned their spots. This is Smith's second straight year on the team.
