Women's Volleyball Team to Face Penn State Wilkes-Barre in Semifinals

The second-seeded Penn College women's volleyball team will face third-seeded Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 7 p.m. Friday in the Penn State University Athletic Conference semifinals.

The match between the Wildcats, 15-1 in the PSUAC and 19-8 overall, and Wilkes-Barre will be played at Penn State University's Rec Hall. Clashing in the other semifinal will be top-seededPenn StateFayette, which will square off at 8:30 p.m. Friday against No. 5Penn StateMont Alto. The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, also at Rec Hall.

During the regular season, Penn College went 3-1 against its potential playoff opponents. It beat Wilkes-Barre 3-2 twice, on Sept. 17 and Oct. 16; it beat Mont Alto 3-1 on Oct. 2 and it lost to Fayette 1-3 on Oct. 8.

The Wildcats are seeking a return to the championship for the first time since 2007. They won it all in 2004 and finished second the next three years. After losing in the first round of the playoffs in 2008, the squad, coached by Bambi Hawkins, was ousted in the semifinals each of the past two seasons.
