Wildcat Women’s Volleyball Team Has Three-Win Week

Led by the women’s volleyball team that posted three wins, Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams put together a combined 5-6 week in action through Sunday. In women’s soccer, the Wildcats, third in the North Eastern Athletic Conference, face key tests against second-place Lancaster Bible and first-place SUNY Poly this week.

Women’s Volleyball
In nonconference action on Monday at Penn State Hazleton, the Wildcats won, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-15). Breana Hayward, of Morrisdale, led the team with 13 kills while Lauren Slater, of Littlestown, had 25 assists.

Hosting King’s College and Valley Forge University in nonconference play on Thursday, Penn College lost to King’s, 3-1 (31-33, 21-25, 25-21, 17-25) and blanked Valley Forge, 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-18). Against King’s, Sophie Coldsmith, of Gettysburg, had 17 kills, Slater 42 assists and Maddison Deibert, of Herndon, 15 digs. Against Valley Forge, Hayward had 14 kills, Slater 26 assists and Coldsmith 12 digs.

On Friday in NEAC action at the Lancaster Bible College quadrangular, Penn College lost to Penn State Abington, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-11), as Slater had 19 assists and Coldsmith 22 digs. On Saturday, first against Bryn Athyn, Penn College won, 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-22), and later Saturday against St. Elizabeth College, the Wildcats lost, 3-2 (25-14, 25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 10-15), to drop to 7-18 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Against Bryn Athyn, Slater had 37 assists and Jalee Rockey, of Morrisdale, 15 digs. Against St. Elizabeth, Coldsmith had 30 digs and Slater 34 assists.

In conference action this week: host Wilson College (0-18 overall, 0-10 NEAC through Sunday), 4 p.m., Friday; host Gallaudet University (14-13, 9-1), 6 p.m., Friday; host Penn State Berks (17-8, 7-3), noon, Saturday.

Last meeting vs. Wilson College: the teams did not play last year.

Last meeting vs. Gallaudet University: Last Oct. 17, Gallaudet won, 3-0. Coldsmith had eight digs and seven assists.

Last meeting vs. Penn State Berks: Last Oct. 16, Berks won, 3-0. Felicia Webber led Penn College with 10 digs.

Statistically speaking through Sunday: Penn College is fourth in the conference in team digs with 1,366 and Coldsmith is eighth among individuals in digs with 292.

Men’s Soccer
Hosting nonconference foe Juniata College on Wednesday, Penn College lost, 5-0. Juniata led in shots, 20-7 (9-3 on goal), and in corner kicks, 4-3.

Back in NEAC action on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill, Luke McFalls, of New Oxford, scored the lone goal at 75:42 in a 1-0 Penn College win that snapped an eight-match losing string. Cobleskill led in shots, 17-7 (10-2 on goal), and in corner kicks, 7-3.

Penn College lost in NEAC play at SUNY Poly on Sunday, 5-0. Poly led in shots, 27-5 (14-1 on goal), and in corner kicks, 5-3, to drop to 3-13 overall, 2-8 in the conference.

In conference action this week: at Lancaster Bible (7-7 overall, 5-5 NEAC through Sunday), 3:15 p.m., Saturday; host Penn State Berks (6-9, 6-4), 2 p.m., Sunday.

Last meeting vs. Lancaster Bible: Last Oct. 24, Penn College lost, 3-1. Randy Vance scored the lone Wildcats goal.

Last meeting vs. Penn State Berks: Last Oct. 25, Penn College fell, 5-1. Gerry Lua scored for Penn College. Berks led in shots, 35-9 (19-3 on goal), and in corner kicks, 9-2.

Statistically speaking through Sunday: Keeper Malcolm Kane, of Ardsley, was fourth in the NEAC in saves with 71 while keeper Hunter Gosnell, of Westminster, Maryland, was fourth in save percentage at .771 and fourth in goals against with 11.

Women’s Soccer
In NEAC action on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill, Penn College dominated in a 5-0 win. Hailee Hartman, of Lampeter, scored two goals and had an assist to pace the offense. The Wildcats led in shots, 23-7 (18-4), and in corner kicks, 5-2.

On Sunday at SUNY Poly, Penn College tasted defeat in conference play for just the second time this season in a 1-0 overtime loss as it went to 9-6-1 overall and 8-2 in the NEAC. Poly led in shots, 27-3 (12-1), and in corner kicks, 6-3.

In conference action this week: at Lancaster Bible (10-4 overall, 9-1 NEAC through Sunday), 1 p.m., Saturday; host Penn State Berks (11-2-1, 10-0), noon, Sunday.

Last meeting vs. Lancaster Bible: Last Oct. 24, the teams fought to a 1-1 draw. Robyn Beddow scored the lone Penn College goal at 48:48 and Lancaster Bible tied it in the last minute on a penalty kick.

Last meeting vs. Penn State Berks: Last Oct. 25, Penn College lost, 5-0. Berks led in shots, 20-3 (9-2 on goal), and in corner kicks, 5-0.

Statistically speaking through Sunday: Hartman was tied for fourth in the NEAC in goals with 13. Goalie Colleen Bowes, of Wayne, is first in save percentage at .837, third in goals against average at 0.92 and fifth in goals against with 15.

Cross-Country
On Saturday at the Gettysburg College Invitational, the men’s team finished 19th among 26 teams and the women last in a 25-team field. Josh Velez, of Lewistown, led the Wildcat men with a 64th-place finish over an 8K course in 28:03.4 and Tom Runner, of Elkridge, Maryland, was 68th in 28:05.9. Annikea Miller, of Lancaster, led the Penn College women over a 6K course in 30:50.5.
