Wildcat Power Team Continues Its Winning Ways

The Penn College Wildcat Power Team continues to claim victories in a series of competitions held at Bucknell University, Lock Haven University and New Castle over the past two seasons.

The team consists of Penn College students who participate in powerlifting and martial arts under the guidance of Dr. William B. Urosevich, associate professor of anatomy and physiology. Members have won gold, silver and bronze medals at several Pennsylvania Keystone State Games in Judo and powerlifting.

"The Wildcat Power Team has been in existence for eight years and has the distinction of having every student that trained with the team for a period of at least one year go on to graduate from Penn College or transfer and graduate from another college," Urosevich said. "The team members strive to achieve the distinction of being both scholars and athletes."

Penn College students who distinguished themselves in recent competitions at New Castle, Bucknell and Lock Haven include:

• Nicholas A. Ivey, senior, construction management, West Chester First place, Ironman 220-pound division
• Daniel J. Pasternak, senior, building and construction management, Richlandtown First place, men's 220-pound division
• Matthew T. McGrath, junior, construction management, Lititz First place, men's 242-pound class
• Roxann Matyas, senior, nursing, Mount Carmel First place, women's 140-pound class
• Michael Goodemote, senior, manufacturing engineering technology, Transfer First place, men's 181-pound division. He also set a Pennsylvania state record for both the bench press and deadlift at a meet in December 2005.
• James Kash, junior, civil engineering technology, Summit Hill First place, Ironman 181-pound division
• David Miller, junior general studies, Pen Argyl First place, men's165-pound division
• William Jeffrey Lane, senior, manufacturing engineering technology, Chadds Ford First place, men's 198-pound division
• Urosevich, adviser and coach, first place in the grandmaster Ironman division

For the 2005-2006 season the following athletes were recognized:

• Manny Balaguer, senior, construction management, Bronx, N.Y. Outstanding Martial Artist
• Goodemote Outstanding Athlete
• Ivey Leadership Award

The team is open to all Penn College students free of charge and meets Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7-11 p.m. in the mezzanine level of the Penn College Field House.
