Wildcat Basketball Teams Have Tough Week

Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams were winless as they started North Eastern Athletic Conference play last week, while the wrestling team had a fourth-place finisher during an invitational at Messiah College.

Men’s Basketball
At Keuka College on Wednesday in their first conference game of the season, Penn College got off to a slow start and lost, 69-60. Ben Sosa, of Loyalsock Township, led the Wildcats in scoring with 20 points and Robert Young, of Abington, added 15.

Hosting SUNY Cobleskill in NEAC play on Saturday, Penn College lost, 77-52. The Wildcats fell behind, 42-25, at the half and couldn’t recover. Sosa led Penn College with 13 points.

Home again on Sunday against Morrisville State College, the Wildcats fell, 78-57, to drop to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Diyel Stewart, of Allentown, topped Penn College with 11 points and Jesse White, of Harrisburg, grabbed 10 rebounds. Morrisville outscored Penn College in the paint, 38-19.

Statistically speaking: Sosa is third in the NEAC, having hit 58.3 percent of his 3-point shots.

Women’s Basketball
Hosting Elmira College in nonconference play on Monday, Penn College lost, 63-49. Jane Herman, of Greencastle, led the Wildcats with 13 points and Cassi Kuhns, of Loyalsock Township, added 12. Elmira scored 28 points off 25 Penn College turnovers.

In their first NEAC game of the season at Keuka College on Wednesday, Penn College dropped a 68-35 decision. Tori Wolfe topped the Wildcats with 11 points.

At home in NEAC action with SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Penn College fell, 49-34. Ericka Lepley, of Lewistown, led Penn College in scoring with 12 points and Wolfe added 10, but the team hit just 18.5 percent (10 of 54) of its field goals and 13.6 percent (three of 22) of its 3-point shots.

Facing Morrisville State College at home on Sunday, the Wildcats fell behind early and lost, 87-69, to drop to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference. In the loss, Penn College got a balanced scoring attack with four players in double digits as Herman scored 18 points, Lepley had 17, Kuhns 16 and Wolfe 11. Kuhns also had 10 rebounds.

Statistically speaking: Wolfe is tied for 18th in the NEAC, averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.

Wrestling
Competing on Friday and Saturday at the Messiah College Petrofes Invitational, Dylan Otis, of Towanda, went 3-2 and finished fourth at 285 pounds for Penn College. Also for the Wildcats, Christian Fox, of Boyertown, ended 2-2 at 133; Scyler Phillips, of Port Jervis, New York, went 1-2 at 285; Dan Bergeron, of Jackson, New Jersey, went 0-2 at 157; Nick Bruce, of Troy, went 0-2 at 184; and Pat Ostrowsky, of Lewisburg, went 0-2 at 197.
