Welding teachers from several Pennsylvania schools attended a meeting on campus last week.On March 24, the PAWE (Pennsylvania Association ofWelding Educators) held its first biannual meeting of 2006 inPennsylvania College of Technology'sThompson Professional Development Center.

The meeting was attended by 30 secondary educators from across the state. The purpose of this developing committee is to provide a forum for welding educators from Pennsylvania to collect and share information about their respective programs and for the group to establish guidelines that it hopes all schools will some day adopt to help better prepare students universally to either enter the workforce or to continue on to higher education with welding programs such as those offered in Penn College's own welding department.

A second meeting for the year will be scheduled for the fall with the invitation of representatives from the American Welding Society and the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute to discuss trends in educationand industry and the needs of students and educators.
