    Thetford engages gallery visitors, offering insights into his creative process. The Tennessee artist celebrates not only an exhibit opening, but his birthday, on July 9. A summer crowd launches the new season in The Gallery at Penn College.Layers of meaning can be found in the art of a former mental health counselor. Thetford’s piece, “Ignoring the Door,” comments on the entrapment that can follow man’s refusal to fully explore his surroundings.Young and old alike say “Yes!” to colorful contemporary collages informed by the richness of the human psyche.

    Despite torrential rains and a tornado watch, the show – namely the initial show in The Gallery at Penn College's new season – must go on. "The Struggle to Evolve Before the End of Time,” a display of contemporary digital compositions by Daryl Thetford, opened with a public reception Thursday on the third floor of Madigan Library, continuing through Aug. 9. Summer hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday (closed Saturday and Monday). Regular hours resume Aug. 18.
