Larry L. Michael was named assistant vice president for workforce development and special projects. Tracy L. Brundage was appointed assistant vice president for workforce and economic development.

Michael, who began his employment with Penn College in 1991 as interim director of the Technology Transfer Center/continuing education, served most recently as executive director, workforce and economic development.

Brundage, who has been employed by the college since 2007, previously served as managing director, workforce development and continuing education.

Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour said the appointments address increasing demands in the workforce-development area, including popular training programs for careers in the natural gas industry offered through the Marcellus Shale Education & Training Center, a collaboration between Penn College and Penn State Cooperative Extension.

"As we have become more involved in Marcellus Shale education and training, the demands on Larry's time have grown," Gilmour said. "His full-time focus is now special projects and the Plastics Manufacturing Center. This reorganization allows him to concentrate on those special projects and vital interaction with outside agencies in order to keep our name at the forefront of this excellent growth opportunity."

Gilmour added: "Tracy is now responsible for all operations in WDCE, with the exception of the PMC. I am very confident in her abilities and in this new leadership structure. The importance of workforce development cannot be overstated, and our statewide and national reputation is greatly enhanced by their collective efforts."

Before his Penn College employment, Michael was director of systems for American Home Foods, Milton; director of management information systems for Best Products Co., Richmond, Va.; programming project leader for Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, Va.; a systems analyst/programmer for the U.S. Air Force, Langley, Va.; and an instructor of programming technology for Thompson Institute, Harrisburg.

Michael holds a master's degree in workforce education and development from The Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor's degree in information systems from Virginia Commonwealth University.

His professional affiliations include the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the IMC (Industrial Modernization Center); the Advisory Board for the Upper Susquehanna Valley Region, Ben Franklin Technology Partners; the Executive Committee for the WEDnetPA Guaranteed Free Training Program; chairman of the Pennsylvania Heartlands Partnership; past president and Board of Directors member for the West Branch Information Technology Association; and technical grant reviewer for the Ben Franklin Technology Partners.

Before working at Penn College, Brundage was director of continuing education at Penn State York, director of workforce development and continuing education at Harrisburg Area Community College, Lancaster; software education instructor for PC Focus, Lancaster; training coordinator for DynCorp Postal Operations Division, York; and a training specialist for Learning Systems International, Washington, D.C.

Brundage holds a Masters of Education in training and development from Penn State and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Gettysburg College. She has completed her Ph.D. course work in the workforce education program at Penn State and is working on her dissertation with the expectation of graduating in December.

Her professional memberships include the local chapter of the American Society for Training and Development, the Clinton County Economic Development Partnership and the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
