Twelve Penn College Spring Athletes Honored

Twelve Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports athletes in three sports have been awarded all-state or all-conference honors.
Wildcats earning all-Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association accolades were Travis Pena (Williamsport) and Ted Kirner (Central Bucks West) in baseball, Teresa Burrill (Jersey Shore) and Kristy Boyd (Parkland) in tennis and Angie Hunter (Williamsport) in softball.
Receiving all-Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference honors were Christian Scheller (North Pocono) and Eric Hammerschmidt (Okemos, Mich.) in baseball, Adam Cleland (East Pennsboro), Aaron Capp (Red Lion) and Mike Cerisini (Lebanon) in tennis and Lindsey Sander (Jersey Shore) and Rachel Sledzinski (Wayne) in softball.
In baseball, Pena, a pitcher, posted a 4-0 record with a 2.44 earned run average; Kirner hit .333 with one home run and 11 runs batted in; Hammerschmidt hit .394 with 10 runs scored and Scheller hit .356 with seven RBI.
"They all played important parts in our run to the championship game," said Mike Stanzione, baseball coach and athletic director.
In softball, Hunter hit .350, Sander hit .429 with five home runs and Sledzinski had a 3-1 pitching record.
In tennis, Burrill won the state singles championship and teamed with Boyd for the doubles championship.
"They (all of the honorees) really gave us a good representation for the spring sports," Stanzione continued, adding of the college's athletic programs in general, "participation is up, the quality athletes continue to be impressive and we've had success in all our sports. We're right where we want to be, and we want to continue to improve."
