Twelve From College Place First at State SkillsUSA-VICA Contest

Twelve students from Pennsylvania College of Technology brought home first-place medals in their competitions at the recent Pennsylvania SkillsUSA-VICA Conference in Lancaster, making them eligible to compete in the national SkillsUSA Championships in Kansas City, Mo., in June.
In all, 22 of the 23 Penn College competitors earned medals in the statewide competition, including six second-place and four third-place finishes.
SkillsUSA-VICA is a national organization serving 250,000 high-school and college students and professional members in training programs for technical, skilled, health and service occupations.
The Penn College first-place finishers and their competition categories are Architectural Drafting: Michael D. Powell, Gansevoort, N.Y.; Automated Manufacturing Technology: Steven L. Grimm, Selinsgrove, Joseph A. Hauser, Latrobe, and Christopher B. Israel, New Bloomfield; Diesel Equipment Technology: Doyle R. Hostetter, Rockwood; Electronics Application: Christopher C. Clugston, Slatington; Electronics Technology, Bruce A. Stephens, Curwensville; Extemporaneous Speech: Jennifer R. Brinkley, Worthington; HVAC Technology: Jeremy D. Dille, Industry; Plumbing: Jason Q. Carrasquillo, Birdsboro; Technical Drafting: Joshua W. Hunsberger, Pottstown; and Welding: James N. Colton, Canton.
The second-place finishers are Automotive Service Technology: Raul Guzman, Teaneck, N.J.; Cabinetmaking: Scott A. Ribarchik, Bristol; Carpentry: Jeffrey S. Turner, Northumberland; Collision Repair Technician: Ryan Garner, Spring City; Internet Workings: Mark J. Berkowitz, Parsipanny, N.J.; and Masonry: Brian H. Anderson, Havre de Grace, Md.
The third-place finishers are Team Works: Jason K. Duttry, Reynoldsville, Nathan D. Kessler, Turbotville, David G. Mazaika, McAdoo, and Joseph P. Roque, Throop.
The faculty advisers for the Penn College SkillsUSA-VICA student competitors are Edward L. Roadarmel, assistant professor of drafting and CAD technology; Dale J. Kissinger Jr., instructor of HVAC technology/plumbing and heating; and Larry B. Leavitt, associate professor of automotive technology.
