Top RAs, Exemplary Programs Honored by Residence Life

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Residence Life Office has selected its " ... of the Month" honorees for September.

RA of the Month
Emily Carella, a residential construction technology and management major from Hawley, was chosen as Resident Assistant of the Month.

"This RA has done a great job of building community with the residents of Hyner View this semester," staff said. "She brought them out to several PC3 events and organized different activities, including a team for the dodgeball game." (PC3 is a three-week series of activities that begin the semester and foster campus involvement.)

"It's a difficult task to get returning students involved in programming, but this RA consistently gets them out to events around campus," Residence Life co-workers noted. "She has a positive attitude and has helped our new RA staff members to transition. She continues to produce excellent work and it really shows at Campus View."

Rising Star of the Month
Honored as an up-and-coming Resident Assistant was Marcel Washington, a building automation technology major from Abington.

"September's Rising Star jumped into his role as a Resident Assistant (in Lancaster Hall) from the first day of training and has continued his excellent work since the beginning of the semester," staff said. "During the past month, he was especially efficient: He put on a very successful 'Chilling and grilling' program, attended a number of events across campus, and even rocked the unexpected role of announcer at several Residence Life events.

His willingness to take on any role, his ease in handling residents' concerns and his professionalism in all aspects make him a prime choice for this month's award."

Educational Program of the Month
Top program honors included Jenna Harner's "Ice Cream Social for a Cause," held Sept. 19 in The Village at Penn College. A nursing student from Montoursville, Harner treated her residents to an old-fashioned ice cream social ... and asked each to bring a canned food item or $1 donation in exchange for a "decadent make-your-own brownie sundae."

"About 75 residents joined Village Residence Life staff to enjoy an evening of socializing with neighbors, eat ice cream and donate to charity," it was noted. "Over 81 pounds of canned goods were collected and donated to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank."

Social Program of the Month
Delaware Hall RAs Justin Mann, Ryan Enders and Cody Buterbaugh worked collaboratively with members of the Sigma Nu fraternity to bring a fun-filled evening to on-campus residents. The students gathered to kick off the new season by watching Monday Night Football and playing the new Madden 2012 video game.

"A great time was had by all," reported Residence Life staff, who awarded the three with Social Program of the Month honors.
