Teachers' Learning Center Provides Pedagogical Paradise

The Teachers' Learning Center in the Madigan Library offers quiet and comfortable surroundings for reading, collaborating with students or colleagues, searching on computers, or previewing a video or DVD. The shelves are filled with books, journals and magazines with a pedagogical focus, offering the newest information on teaching and learning.Did you ever wonder, "Is There a Place for Games in the College Classroom?" Well, the June/July 2006 issue of Teaching Professor has an article addressing that topic. If you have ever thought of "Questioning Questions," pick up the February 2005 issue of National Teaching & Learning Forum for hints on teaching students how to ask critical questions.
Many book reviews written by educators are tucked between these erudite articles on current topics and common challenges in the academic classroom.
"Once Upon a Campus," "Paths to the Professoriate" and "Why Teach Mathematics?" are only a few of the 273 books located in the Teachers' Learning Center.
Also on display are books written by Penn College faculty members, including "Managing Automotive Businesses," co-authored by Ronald A. Garner, professor of automotive technology; "The Making of the Indian Working Class" by Vinay Bahl, associate professor of sociology; and "Perils of a Restless Planet" by former physics professor Ernest Zebrowski.A list of books in the TLC is available for perusal.
Fulbright Scholarship information and deadlines are posted for review and ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education booklets, giving guidelines for promoting information literacy in the classroom, are available for the taking.
So grab a cup of latte or chai tea at Bookmarks Cafe and enjoy the quiet and peaceful ambience of the brand-new Teachers' Learning Center in the Madigan Library while catching up on the latest in teaching and learning.
