Four Pennsylvania College of Technology students have received scholarship awards from the Architectural Woodwork Institute, which also has honored the college with its first Presidential Award of Excellence in Woodworking Education.

Andrew P. Hoover, Altoona; Jason M. Klinedinst, New Oxford; Keith A. Fessler Jr., Pine Grove; and Adam S. Anspach, Milton all enrolled in cabinetmaking and millwork will split $1,500 in scholarship funds. This is the second consecutive year that AWI, located in Potomac Falls, Va., has designated Penn College for scholarship assistance, according to William F. Geyer, assistant professor of building construction technology.

Geyer recently traveled to New Orleans for AWI's annual meeting, where he accepted the President's Award on behalf of the college. He serves as vice chairman of the institute's undergraduate division for lifelong learning and a member of its Development Council, and has served in a variety of AWI educational capacities over the past seven years.

"The active involvement of the faculty on Architectural Woodwork Institute operational committees is a giant gesture of good will and support from academia to our industry," AWI President Rick Kogler said in a letter to Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour. He also noted that the group held its Summer Career and Technology Education event on campus in June.
