Students From Around Pennsylvania to Attend 'Career Day'

A thousand students in grades 7-12 across Pennsylvania will learn more about of a variety of vocations when they gather at Pennsylvania College of Technology for "Career Day" on Friday, March 16.
During the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., students will have the opportunity to explore diverse career choices ranging from pastry chef to semiconductor technician.
For many students, it's their first visit to a college campus. As they travel around the College, the students will get to "try on" different careers, discovering which ones appeal to them most and which ones are in demand in the labor market.
"The day is important, in that we get the opportunity to show students all of the different technology careers that are available," said Ellen S. Auchter, career development specialist with the Penn College Tech Prep Consortium. "A lot of students have no idea what some of these careers are − robotics technician, tool-and-die designer, semiconductor technician, plastics technician, to name a few. We show them what these workers do, we talk about salaries, and we open a few doors."
Participating schools include: Berks CTC, Columbia-Montour Area Vocational Technical School, Corry Area School District, Easton Area School District, Keystone Central School District, Lewisburg Area School District, Line Mountain School District, Millville Area School District, Milton Area School District, Philadelphia City School District, Schuylkill Technology Centers, Southern Columbia Area School District, Valley View School District and Wellsboro Area School District.
