Students Compete in Industry-Judged Welding Contest

    Student Sara M. Crawford, Eldred, a competitor in the American Welding Society's postsecondary welding contest March 1, with judges Rick Sunderland, left, and Niles Oehrli Eighteen Penn College students and 18 students from area secondary schools competed in a welding contest held in the college's Metal Trades Center on March 1. The contest was conducted by the Central Pennsylvania Section of the American Welding Society. Penn College students' welding jobs were judged against one another by AWS members Rick Sunderland, of Logue Industries, and Niles Oehrli, of High Steel. Students from three area high schools Williamsport Area High School, Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School, and SUN Area Career and Technology Center also made welds in the college's labs that were judged against one another. Winners will be announced and honored at a banquet in April.
