Student-Made Gingerbread Houses to Be Auctioned for Charity

Culinary students at Pennsylvania College of Technology are making gingerbread houses that will be displayed during the Third Annual Victorian Christmas celebration in Williamsport's Historic District before being auctioned for charity.
The student-crafted creations will be displayed from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Park Place (formerly The Park Home) on West Fourth Street. The silent auction begins that day and will continue as the houses are displayed again in a School of Hospitality food show that will take place Friday, Dec. 7, at the Thompson Professional Development Center at Penn College.
The food show is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; at 2:30 p.m., the gingerbread houses will be awarded to the highest bidders. All proceeds will be donated to the charities chosen by the students, said Suzann L. Major, assistant professor of food and hospitality management/culinary arts at the College. Major teaches the Cakes and Decorations class in which the students are crafting the intricate confections.
The templates for the gingerbread houses were designed by Dorothy J. Gerring, associate professor of architecture in the School of Construction and Design Technologies at Penn College.
