Joann Kay, executive director of the Penn College Foundation, accepts a check for the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship Fund from James Riedel, Student Government Association president.Students are helping students succeed at Pennsylvania College of Technology through a new scholarship fund established by the Student Government Association.

The Student Leader Legacy Scholarship will make its first $500 award at the Student Activities Awards Banquet in April, according to SGA President James Riedel, an automotive technology management student from Quogue, N.Y.

"The Student Leader Legacy Fund is the beginning of a new chapter for our students," Riedel said. "We've created the first scholarship working toward endowment by students, and for the students, to recognize the students who are committed to continuing the legacy of leadership at Penn College."

The money to establish the Student Leader Legacy Fund was raised through ticket sales and sponsorship fees from a Donkey Basketball game held in the college's Bardo Gymnasium during Homecoming in January.

Riedel said the SGA is planning to hold annual fund-raising activities toward the goal of making the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship a fully endowed (permanent) source of scholarship awards.

Successful applicants for the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship must be full-time students with a grade-point average of at least 2.5 and a minimum of one year of full-time status remaining in their studies who demonstrate a strong determination to continue the legacy of student leadership at Penn College. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership to Penn College and the surrounding communities.

Penn College students interested in applying for the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship can obtain applications at the Bush Campus Center information desk, at the SGA Office in Room 122 of the Campus Center or on the SGA Web site .

Completed applications should be returned to the Campus Center information desk by 4 p.m. Friday, April 13. The SGA Banquet Awards committee will select the scholarship recipient, who will be announced at the Student Activities Awards Banquet on April 25.
