Student in Plastics Program Earns Research Award

A student enrolled in Pennsylvania College of Technology's plastics and polymer engineering technology major was chosen to receive the John Manson Memorial Student Research Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers Lehigh Valley Section.
Lehigh Valley SPE member Les Sperling presented the $1,000 award to Penn College senior Sean M. Stabler, Montoursville, during the section's January meeting.
Stabler's winning subject is that of his senior capstone project at Penn College: mold materials and heat transfer during the rotational-molding process.
"Competition is generally limited to students attending a college or university within the Lehigh Valley area, making it particularly noteworthy that Sean has been selected for this award," said John R. Bartolomucci, instructor of plastics technology at Penn College.
Manson, for whom the award is named, was a professor of chemistry at Lehigh University for many years. He organized what was then called the polymer program, later to develop into the Center for Polymer Science and Engineering at Lehigh University. He spent his professional life teaching and conducting research on polymers. Manson was known worldwide, authoring two books on polymers and publishing many scientific and engineering papers on the subject.
