Student Honored in Harrisburg for Vo-Tech Success

Bridgens, assistant dean of construction and design technologies.A freshman in Pennsylvania College of Technology's HVAC Technology Program recently was honored on the floor of the state House of Representatives for his gold-medal performance in vocational-technical competition while a student at the Career Institute of Technology in Northampton County.

Shawn A. Wasielewski of Easton won the heating-ventilation-air conditioning category in the national SkillsUSA-VICA contest, which gauges competitors' abilities to troubleshoot, recommend service and execute repairs. Participants are judged on speed, safety, accuracy and their use of tools.

Wasielewski won regional and state competitions to qualify for the national championships in Kansas City, Mo.

At the collegiate level, Penn College frequently has been represented in regional, state and national VICA competition. Nine students took part in this year's nationals, one of them bringing home a silver medal.
