Student Earns Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Scholarship

Pennsylvania College of Technology student Richard A. Blase has been awarded the John Bosak Scholarship from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters.
Blase, Cogan Station, was operations manager for WPTC, Penn College's student-run radio station, for the 2004-05 academic year. In addition to being responsible for the station's overall sound, Blase did production work and produced a weekly public-affairs program on last fall's election. He was also responsible for remote-broadcast setups.
A sophomore in the mass media communication associate-degree major, Blase expects to graduate in Spring 2006.
Currently, Blase is part of the weekend jazz staff for WPTC, and he works part time at the local Clear Channel cluster of stations, running the console during sporting events.
The $500 John Bosak Scholarship is dedicated to broadcast engineering and was named in honor of a longtime member of that profession. The scholarship was awarded at the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters' annual engineering conference on Nov. 3.
"Rick has done an excellent job at WPTC in whatever area you ask him to work," said Bradley L. Nason, assistant professor of mass communications at Penn College. "He's always eager to try something new and, as a result, has a wide range of broadcast experiences, which is something that should be appealing to employers in commercial radio."
