The Gallery at Penn College

A ceramics exhibit by four students and one faculty member at Pennsylvania College of Technology – “4+1=Five Hands in Clay” – will be offered Dec. 1-8 in the lobby of The Gallery at Penn College. The exhibit will also feature an auction of 10 clay mugs on display from Nov. 29 through Dec. 8.
An opening reception is set for Thursday, Dec. 1, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public.
Students participating in the exhibit are: Brendon J. Dibble, Douglassville, advertising art; Anna B. Graef, State College, electrical technology; John S. Krause, Lebanon, graphic design; and Carrie A. Myers, Williamsport, graphic design. They will be joined in the exhibit by their teacher, David A. Stabley, instructor of ceramics and wood sculpture.
The pieces on display will include a variety of thrown, hand-built and sculptural ceramics, including many different finishing techniques. Each student has selected seven or more pieces for the show. The works were created during Ceramics III, an independent study class.
The functional and decorative pieces will be for sale.
Silent auction bids for the 10 one-of-a-kind clay mugs will be accepted through 4 p.m. on Dec. 8. All money raised will benefit the Penn College Employee Emergency Fund, which supports those facing an unexpected financial hardship due to a sudden, unforeseen emergency-related event.
The mugs were thrown by Stabley and carved or designed and signed by full- and part-time art faculty including Stabley, Roza G. Breneisen, Brian A. Flynn, Robert F. Pierce, David M. Moyer, Deborah L. Stabley, Nicholas L. Stephenson, Keith A. Vanderlin, Mallory L. Weymer and Mark W. Wilson.
Located on the third floor of Madigan Library, the gallery is open 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays; 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.
In addition to serving as an educational resource for Penn College students and a cultural asset to the college and community, the gallery is dedicated to promoting art appreciation through exhibitions of contemporary art.
