Two Student Affairs employees at Pennsylvania College of Technology were promoted to director-level positions at the start of the 2016-17 academic year.

Anthony J. Pace was named director of student activities, and Katie L. Mackey is the new director of campus and community engagement.

Anthony J. Pace“Since joining our campus community two years ago, ‘Pace’ (as he’s known on campus) has made an indelible mark on our students,” said Elliott Strickland, chief student affairs officer. “We are so excited that he will be leading our efforts to advance student involvement at the college.”

Pace holds a master’s degree in student services administration and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He joined the Student Activities Office staff in June 2014.

As assistant director of student activities for student organizations and orientation, he was responsible for advising the Student Government Association, overseeing student organizations, coordinating leadership programs, and supervising Connections Links (orientation student leaders) and the office’s National Orientation Directors Association interns.

Pace was a student life coordinator/First Year Residents Succeeding Together program coordinator at Lycoming College from 2013-14.

Katie L. Mackey“Katie has continually proven to be a vital member of the Penn College family; as a student-leader, as a valued alumna and as a college administrator,” Strickland said. “This new role, which will focus on serving students from underrepresented groups and other identified special populations, will have institution- and community-wide impact.  I could not think of anyone better suited to lead this new area, which is so critical to the success of students in our college community.”

Mackey holds a master’s degree in adult education from Penn State’s World Campus and a bachelor’s degree in applied human services from Penn College. After a two-year stint as a care manager with the Philadelphia Corporation of Aging, she returned to her alma mater as a residence life coordinator from August 2005 to July 2010.

More recently, she served as coordinator of off-campus living and commuter services, helping students from those populations – who, despite an increase in on-campus apartments, still represent the largest percentage of enrollees – get the most out of their college experience. During her tenure, student community and commuter assistants were appointed, interaction with off-campus landlords was heightened, and a dedicated commuter lounge was opened in the Bush Campus Center.

Pace and Mackey both serve on a number of campus committees, and have resumes that reflect their involvement with the community, professional development activities and attendance at conferences relevant to their student-centered mission.
