Show to Examine Epithets' Obstacles to Racial Understanding

The ways in which racial name-calling prevents true cultural awareness will be explored in a provocative theatrical piece to be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Pennsylvania College of Technology's Klump Academic Center Auditorium.
With an intentionally controversial title, Speak Theatre Arts' "N*GGER WETB*CK CH*NK" blends theater, hip-hop, stand-up comedy, slam poetry and real-life stories that take on "racial slurs, stereotypes and the concept of race itself."
Reserved-seat tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the Bush Campus Center information desk on the college's main campus in Williamsport. (Students and employees with a valid Penn College ID each will receive one free ticket.)
"The show traces the origins and evolution of three derogatory terms that shaped our lives and took the place of a genuine understanding of our cultures," its three co-writers and cast members explain.
The show is touring college and universities this year and most recently was performed at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, SUNY Rockland, Iowa State University, Lehigh University and the University of Central Florida.
