"Floral Morning," a colorful landscape print by renowned landscape artist David Seybold, is being offered for sale by the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation. College and foundation officials unveiled the print during a reception held Friday, Nov. 13, at Penn College's Thompson Professional Development Center.

Typical of Seybold's work, the painting reflects his love of detail and his use of light and shadow to convey a feeling of "being there." The relaxing scene is intended to offer a "reprieve from the harried life most of us lead" and to transport the viewer to "a calmer, more relaxing moment."

The artist described the landscape depicted in Floral Morning in a personal journal notation: "Early this morning, the beauty of this garden caught my eyes and I couldn't resist a closer look. Barely visible behind the brilliant floral display lies the remains of an old stone foundation. It reminds me of our own lives. When built upon firm foundations and with loving care, the past fades away and we gradually grow and blossom into the beauty of tomorrow."

The artist grew up in Dunkirk in southwest New York. His discovery of a box of paints in his mother's attic launched a lifetime of interest in art. He earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1991. In 1998, he was named one of the top 27 "artists to watch" by US Art Magazine. His work has been displayed recently in exhibitions in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and North Carolina.

Artist remarque copies of "Floral Morning" are sold out. Still available are signed and numbered prints (34 by 16 inches) for $120 and artist proofs for $165. Costs for selected framing, in addition to print, are $155 with double matting and $175 with triple matting.

Prints are available now, in time for holiday gift giving. Copies are on display at Penn College and B&S Picture Frames in Williamsport. For more information or to reserve a limited edition print, call the Foundation at (717) 320-8020.

The print is the fifth in the series of artist prints designed exclusively for sale by the Foundation; proceeds from the sales benefit scholarship funds for Penn College students.

About the Artist
David Seybold was raised in Dunkirk, a community located in the southwest grape-wine region of New York state. It was here that, as a young boy, he discovered the box of paints in his mother's attic, and an affinity for the brush was realized.

Seybold continued to paint throughout high school and college, culminating in a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1991.

Throughout his studies,he has concentrated on the landscape and its forms, placing a special emphasis on sensitivity to the earth and its many elements. Seybold has always been fascinated with architecture, especially brick and stone structures. In the years since graduation, he has continued to perfect his craft using these points of interest as his primary focus.

As Seybold's portfolio has increased, so have the interest in and the accolades for his work. His credits now list as a "who's who" among young artists, and prints of his work can be found in galleries and private collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Seybold's paintings reflect his love of detail, and he uses light and shadow to convey the feeling of "being there." The relaxing scenes he paints are a reprieve from the harried life most of us lead, and upon viewing his works we are transported to a calmer, more relaxing moment.
