Seven Penn College Soccer Players Named All-Americans

Even while its teams were competing in national tournaments, seven Pennsylvania College of Technology soccer players were named United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Americans.

Earning First-Team All-American honors for the Penn College women were Hannah McCracken (Williamsport), Bridget Metzger (Montoursville) and Chelsey Holmes (Hughesville). Also for the Wildcats, Erin Oberlin (New Berlin) received Honorable Mention recognition.

Stephen Lis (Elliottsburg) received First-Team honors for the Penn College men, while Steven Bull (Hampstead, Md.) and Coleby Frye (York) received Honorable Mention.

In USCAA national playoff action in Burlington, Vt., the Penn College women advanced to Friday's semifinals with a 6-0 win over Vermont Tech on Thursday. Metzger scored two goals and added an assist to lead the way. The Wildcats (9-3-1) held VT without a shot on goal or a corner kick. Friday afternoon at 1, Penn College faces Christendom, a team it beat 2-1 during the regular season. If the Wildcats win Friday, they will play at 1 p.m. Saturday for the championship against either Southern Virginia or Andrews University.

Competing in the USCAA tournament in Rochester Hills, Mich., the Penn College men were not as fortunate. They dropped their opener Wednesday to NHTI of Concord, N.H., 4-2, and then were eliminated on Thursday after a 1-0 loss to Columbia-Union College, Md. The Wednesday loss was the Wildcats' first after 13 wins this season and ended their two-season win string at 29 matches. Penn College finished 13-2 with Thursday's defeat.

Six Penn College players also have been honored by the USCAA as Academic All-Americans. They are McCracken and Justine Wareham (Hollidaysburg) in women's soccer; Bull, William De Angelo (Dallas) and Daniel Shaffer (Shermansdale) in men's soccer; and Karlee Shubert (Hanover) in women's volleyball.
