Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Health Sciences will host its second annual 5K Walk/Run on April 16 to raise scholarship funds for students enrolled in health sciences majors at the college.

Net proceeds from the race will be used to support the School of Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship Fund, with the goal of building the fund to an endowment of at least $25,000, after which it will become a permanent source of scholarship awards. Fundraising efforts for the scholarship are coordinated by School of Health Sciences faculty and staff.

"We encourage our current students, faculty, staff, alumni friends and community members to participate in this worthwhile cause," said Sharon K. Waters, dean of health sciences at Penn College. "We look forward to working together to raise funds toward the establishment of an endowed scholarship for deserving students."

The race is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the college's main entrance, off Maynard Street. Registration will take place from 8 to 9:45 a.m. The cost to register before April 16 is $15. Race-day registration is $20. To request a registration form, email the School of Health Sciences or call 570-320-2400, ext. 7240.

Prizes will be awarded to the top-finishing male and female runner and walker.

Recipients of the School of Health Sciences Scholarship will be selected from eligible applicants who are enrolled full time in at least their second semester of any major in the School of Health Sciences with a grade-point average of at least 3.0. An applicant's community service and college extracurricular activities will be taken into account.
