As part of the Penn College Scholarship Campaign launched this month, Dorothy J. Gerring, associate professor of architectural technology, and William F. Geyer, assistant professor of building construction technology, have established the Gerring Geyer Scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The annual scholarship will provide two $1,000 awards each academic year to students who demonstrate financial need and academic performance.

Secondary preference will be given to any building science and sustainable design student with an associate degree related to construction, including building construction technology, HVAC technology, electrical technology or masonry.

“Bill and Dorothy have been very generous, both to the college and the Penn College Foundation, for a number of years, most notably through their support of the Penn College Fund and the foundation’s biennial dinner and auction,” said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. “We’re exceedingly grateful to them for demonstrating their commitment to the college by establishing this scholarship.”

“Penn College offers wonderful programs in technical education, and we know that many students need financial help to achieve their goal of a college degree,” Gerring said. “Scholarships I had made it possible for me to afford college, and we are excited that this scholarship gives us the opportunity to help students get a solid foundation toward a rewarding career.”

“Dorothy and I have enjoyed rewarding careers at Penn College. We wanted to support the college and its students in a meaningful way,” Geyer said. “With this commitment, we are able to assist students in both of our teaching arenas: building construction technology and building science and sustainable design. I am thankful for the foundation’s assistance and guidance that made this scholarship a reality.”

The Penn College Scholarship Campaign is an initiative to raise at least $3.75 million for scholarships in conjunction with the college’s Centennial Celebration in 2014.
