Residence Life Announces Noteworthy RAs, Programs

The Residence Life Office at Pennsylvania College of Technology has announced its latest round of honors, lauding students and programs within the institution's on-campus housing complexes.

Chosen as "Resident Assistant of the Month" for the second time this year was Tacy L. De Green, a technology management major from Bloomsburg and an RA at Campus View Apartments.

"Tacy continues to shine in Residence Life. She especially stood out this past month for her hard work with the Wellness Committee," staff noted in announcing her selection. "Tacy also works very hard at Campus View and is a valuable asset to her team."

"Rising Star" awards were conferred upon Dereck I. Smith, also an RA in Campus View, and Tyler K. Wetzel, an RA in Rose Street Apartments.

"This RA has sponsored programs such as 'Powder Puff Football' and spearheaded the building of Penn College's award-winning Mardi Gras float this year," staff said of Smith, a construction building technology major from South Plainfield, N.J.

"He is a true team player and very reliable. He's always there when his staff needs something."

As for Wetzel, Residence Life said: "Following a quiet and unassuming first semester, this month's selection ...has grown in leaps and bounds in his role as an RA. (He) is well-liked by everyone on staff and is always quick to help his coordinator."

Wetzel also organized the month's winning education program (see below), as well as a make-your-own-papier-mache project and a well-attended Super Bowl program.

Residence Life also selected educational and social "Programs of the Month," as follows:

• Educational
  "Drugs and Alcohol: The Hard Reality," organized by Wetzel, an automotive technology management student from Herndon, Va., who asked Larry B. Leavitt, an associate professor of automotive technology, to speak about his son's drug-overdose death and its far-reaching effects on his family. "This program had a very strong impact on those in attendance," staff noted.
• Social
  A pingpong tournament developed by Sarah J. Landis, a physician assistant major from Lititz and an RA in The Village. "This RA has no real interest in pingpong but a group of her residents did, and she was able to set up a ... tournament for them," Residence Life staff said. "The turnout for this event was fantastic and the community-building aspect was even greater."
