Reminder: Policy Prohibits Collection of Social Security Numbers


All employees are reminded that, with the implementation of the new student/employee ID number system, the collection of Social Security numbers from students and employees is, by policy, prohibited except where required by statute or authorized by President’s Council. This change from Social Security to new employee and student ID numbers was made in response to legislation designed to protect the privacy of all of us. Please review any forms that you use in your office to be sure they do not require provision of Social Security numbers for reasons other than those approved as above. Furthermore, please review all office practices to ensure that Social Security numbers are not being collected from students or employees, or posted and displayed in violation of policy.
