Record Number of Penn College Students to Graduate In May

A record-breaking 874 students have petitioned to graduate in May from Pennsylvania College of Technology, which will hold two commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 15, at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport.

The ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. for graduates from the Schools of Construction and Design Technologies, Integrated Studies, Natural Resources Management, and Transportation Technology, and at 2 p.m. for graduates from the Schools of Industrial and Engineering Technologies, Health Sciences, Hospitality, and Business and Computer Technologies.

The previous record for May graduate petitioners was 814, established in 2003.

The student speaker for the morning ceremony will be Marie A. Szabo, a Graphic Communications Management major from Williamsport. The student speaker for the afternoon ceremony will be Jesse R. Viani of Wellsville, whose major is Business Administration-Management Information Systems Concentration.

In addition to the presentation of diplomas, the Master Teacher Award will be bestowed, along with the Excellence in Teaching Award. The Master Teacher Award is the highest level of recognition conferred upon a Penn College faculty member. Also to be presented are Distinguished Alumnus and Alumni Achievement Awards.

Degrees will be conferred by Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour and Penn College Board of Directors' Chairman Dr. Robert E. Dunham.

The ceremonies will be broadcast live in the Williamsport area on SusCom (the local cable TV provider) Channel 2, beginning at 10 a.m.
