Smith received an Artistic Excellence Award from the gallery. The honor is given to a student who demonstrates skill in his or her selected medium and knowledge of the artistic process. The award includes a gift certificate to The College Store and an opportunity to exhibit artwork in the gallery lobby.

Smith’s display includes paintings, sculpture and work on paper. The student exhibit coincides with an exhibition of bronze sculpture and drawings by Ed Smith, a Guggenheim Fellow and professor of art at Marist College.

Danny Smith says his work “illustrates my inability to place life within the greater context of an objective sense of reality and being.”

He has been accepted at The Cooper Union’s School of Art, in New York City, and will start there in the fall.
