Recent Graduate Becomes Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist

Garrett M. Book, a May graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology's ornamental horticulture: landscape technology emphasis major, recently received word that he passed all four sections of the Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist examination.
The exam was offered to Penn College students by horticulture instructor Carl J. Bower through the Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association at the end of April.
According to the PLNA, the program is a formal way for landscape or nursery practitioners to assess their knowledge and gain professional credibility. A score of 80 percent or above must be attained in each of the four sections of the competitive test; those reaching that goal are designated as a PCH.
"This is a hard test to master and it is certainly a testament to Garrett's skills and knowledge," Bower said. "This will be a great tool to help separate himself from his competition."
Book, of Lebanon, represented his class as a student speaker during Penn College's morning commencement on May 15, one of three ceremonies to end the Spring 2010 semester.
