Flint connected for 26 points in a win over Penn State-Fayette that allowed the Wildcats to tie the school record for wins in a season ? 14. That mark was last reached during the 2000 season when the team finished 14-11, losing in the first round of the EPCC playoffs.

Penn College has regular-season games Wednesday and Saturday, then will enter the Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference playoffs.

Women’s BasketballBrittany Blessard (Bucktail) scored 26 points and Jen Racho (Hazleton) pulled down 11 rebounds in a win over the Community College of Philadelphia.

Penn College saw its five-game win streak snapped with a loss to Penn State Abington, a team it had beaten by 24 points earlier in the season. Natalie Plavi (Elderton) led the Lady Wildcats with 23 points.

Stupar scored 28 points and Blessard added 21 as the Penn College women recorded their first win ever over Manor College. The Lady Wildcats are two wins shy of matching their most wins in a single season 19 set during the 1999 campaign.

“That (win over Manor Saturday) was obviously a great win. We learned a lot about Manor and they learned a lot about us. Our goal is to get to the EPCC finals and that’s the team that we’re most likely going to face (along the way),” coach Ron Kodish said.

“I told the team in the first half (against Manor) that basketball is a game of spurts and what you have to do is weather every storm. . . . We kept our composure down the stretch and made the right plays at the right time,” Kodish said.

The Lady Wildcats host Penn State Scranton Monday night, then entertain Harrisburg Area Community College at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference playoffs.

Archery The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s compound archery team took first place last weekend at the Virginia State Indoor Collegiate Championships at Manassas.

Individually for Penn College, Michelle Wright (Kendall, N.Y.) placed first in women’s compound competition and Beth Robinson (Williamsport) was second.

“The women shot excellent,” said Wildcat coach Chad Karstetter.

Penn College teams finished second to James Madison University in both men’s compound and men’s recurve. In individual competition, Ryan Benny (Burnham) scored a personal career-high 582 points, but finished third.

“The men shot above their averages, but still got beat. James Madison has a couple of good world champions who are freshmen this year, so they’re going to be around,” Karstetter said.

Penn College still is awaiting results from the Pennsylvania State Indoor Championship held two weeks ago. The College’s next competition will be at the U.S. Indoor Eastern Region Championship March 11-13 at Harrisonburg, Va.
