RAs, Programs Recognized by Residence Life Office

Outstanding Resident Assistants and events for October have been announced by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Residence Life Office.

RA of the MonthHonored as Resident Assistant of the Month was Anthony R. Grubbs, a residential construction technology and management major from Irwin and an RA in The Village at Penn College.

"The Resident Assistant of the Month had a great October. He continues to excel in different areas of his position, including resident involvement, interactions, and most recently programming," Residence Life staff said. "He's very well-known around the complex and is able to connect with residents on a level in which they are engaged by learning from one another.

"During the month of October, he has assisted and participated in several of the Residence Hall Cup Competition events, volunteered for the Homecoming Flag Football game, and most recently organized the Village Trick or Treat night, a program that brought more than 100 guests to the Village. The RA of the Month is someone who has an open heart and mind, and who consistently adds to the laughter on the staff. He is someone who has made a difference in the lives of many residents and peers."

Rising Star of the Month The Rising Star of the Month was Morris Sayon, of Upper Darby, a first-year RA at College West Apartments and an automotive technology management major.

"This resident assistant is deserving of recognition for many reasons," staff wrote. "He's done an excellent job in his position as RA and is truly an asset to our department. He is extremely organized and follows through on tasks to ensure that the job gets done. He often volunteers his time in order to better serve the department. Not only is he a resident assistant, he is also a student athlete. He's always willing to offer assistance and has an excellent rapport with everyone. This RA genuinely and consistently treats everyone with respect and dignity."

Educational Program of the MonthHonored as the most noteworthy educational program for October was "Floor Pong," presented by Ashlin R. Hollinger, a plastics and polymer engineering technology student and a resident assistant at Campus View Apartments.

"The Educational Program of the Month was a second annual event held in the Field House," staff wrote. "Promoted by a YouTube video linked from the student portal and by word of mouth, the event reintroduced the campus to a variation on table tennis in which surfaces beyond the table are fair game."

Staff noted that Hollinger recruited part-time fitness and lifetime sports faculty member Cathy J. Specht to offer participants some hands-on instruction.

"The event was a big success," staff said.

Social Program of the MonthHonored as the month's outstanding social event was a "Totally Groovy Tie Dye" program arranged by Rose Street Apartments RAs Kevin E. Brookhart, a diesel technology student from Liverpool; Jeffrey L. Eshenour, a web and applications development student from Elliottsburg; Marissa R. Koch, a technology management student from Coal Township; and Alonso L. Marchinski, an aviation maintenance technology student from Mohnton.

"The Social Program of the Month was a collaboration of brainstorming and creativity by four members of the Rose Street staff. They worked together to develop a program that was not only a successful social event, but a learning activity, as well," Residence Life staff said. "The RAs instructed the residents on how to create various patterns, color selection, and the correct use of dye to achieve the desired result. The program was well attended and enjoyed by all."
