Program Urges Students: Think Before You 'Leap' Into Spring Break

Pennsylvania College of Technology is preparing for a Leap Year event that encourages students to make wise, safe decisions during Spring Break and beyond.

In a party atmosphere in Penn's Inn from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 with "Happy Hour: Leap Into Spring Break" as its new theme information will be provided regarding alcohol, safe sex, highway safety, safe sun exposure and other considerations for students traveling over break (and leaving their course work and inhibitions behind).

The annual "Happy Hour" is cosponsored by Counseling Services, the Student Activities Office, College Health Services, the School of Hospitality and Dining Services.

The event again will feature a nonalcoholic "mix-off" competition involving students from beverage management classes instructed by Chef Paul E. Mach, assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts; Neal Palmer, maitre d'hotel at Le Jeune Chef Restaurant; and Alfredo F. Daniele, of Franco's Lounge and a part-time instructor in the college's School of Hospitality.

The student-prepared drinks will be judged on taste, appearance and originality. Attendees will get to sample mix-off beverages and plenty of pizza, ribs, chicken and dessert will be available, as well.

"If you haven't attended in the past, the food is great, the drinks are exceptionally creative and tasty, and the atmosphere is festive and fun," counselor Michael S. DiPalma said. "You're sure to have a good time."
