Professional Development Speakers Cover Range of Interesting Subjects

Two special speakers, among the staff-development activities scheduled for Penn College faculty and staff, offered topics of interest in presentations Wednesday.



Dave PoppMarie SecorThe keynote speaker, Marie Secor (right), distinguished visiting professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and former department head at The Pennsylvania State University, presented "War Stories From West Point: What Are the Best Conditions for Teachingand Learning?" in a pair of sessions on the second floor of the Madigan Library.

Dave Popp (left) of Penn State presented "Improve Communication Using Myers-Briggs Type Indicator," a dissection of how people understand differently what we say, throughout the day in Penn's Inn on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center.

Tim Mannello, consultant, offered a session of interest to supervisors titled "The ABC's of Management: Mastering the Basics," on Dec. 21.

Upcoming activities include:

  • Do you know what to do when someone gets violent at work?


John Macmillan, of Employee Services, Inc., will present a session on "How to Respond to Violence in the Workplace," on Jan. 10.

  • How can you organize your workspace?


Jackie Esposito, affiliate instructor with Penn StateHRDC,returns for an encore presentation of "Organize Your Files and Records" on Jan. 11.

These and many more offerings are available in the Professional Development Catalog available online. It also includes the calendar of events for the end of this semester and beginning of spring semester, as well as professional-development sessions being offered from December to March.
