Bodnar, professor and instructional initiatives librarian. Two representatives of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library were presenters at the regional conference, "Integrating Library Services Into a Learning Management System," held April 18 at SUNY Brockport.

Marilyn G. Bodnar, professor and instructional initiatives librarian, and Joshua D. Young, virtual resources manager, discussed the library's interactive tutorial at the conference, which attracted attendees from 11 states and three Canadian provinces. The instruction is required of all students in English Composition I, familiarizing them with basic resources to help them navigate the library and complete their assignments.

Their presentation, "1,300 Students Must Complete Our Interactive Library Tutorial," focused on the design considerations and assessment features that are built into the online training. The college's English faculty, the Instructional Technology & Distance Learning office, and Madigan staff and librarians collaborated to conceptualize, design and implement the interactive tutorial that uses Adobe Flash and is housed in a Learning Management System.

The developers also created a statistical reporting structure to generate data for a number of variables, including the librarian who taught the 50- to 75-minute class, the English faculty member, the semester, the student's name, the grade received and the section number. Further, to help assess responses to the quiz, a report can be generated depicting how many total students answered a question correctly per one of six tracks selected. Built-in assessment was a key consideration in the tutorial's design, Bodnar and Young explained.
