Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Outreach Practical Nursing Program, located in the Wellsboro Area School District offices, will host an information session on Tuesday, May 10, for those interested in nursing as a career.

The session will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the former music room at the district’s administration building.

Natalie O. DeLeonardis, coordinator of the Outreach Practical Nursing Program, will discuss admission requirements, the application process, tuition and financial aid, as well as licensure and job opportunities for graduates. There will be an opportunity to ask questions following the presentation.

The next practical nursing class is scheduled to begin Jan. 3. The campus will begin pre-admission testing for 2017 in late May of this year. All applicants must complete applications and pre-entrance requirements by Oct. 3 to be considered for admission to the January 2017 class.

Classes for the 12-month, full-time practical nursing program are held at Wellsboro Area High School with clinical experiences at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, the Green Home, and Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wellsboro, as well as other local facilities.

The Outreach Practical Nursing Program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Successful completers of the program will be prepared to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-PN) for licensure as an LPN. Educational opportunities for advancement to registered nurse are available.

This is a clock-hour program, eligible for Pell grants and Stafford Loans, designed specifically by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College.

Excellent career opportunities for licensed practical nurses exist in area hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, personal-care facilities and human-service organizations.
