A Pennsylvania College of Technology plastics major is the sole nationwide recipient of a scholarship from the Blow Molding Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers.

Seth E. Cook, of Mountville, a senior enrolled in the college’s plastics and polymer engineering technology bachelor-degree major, received the 2016 Carrie Fox Solin Memorial Scholarship. The $3,000 award is presented annually to a plastics student who has compiled a strong record of academic and extracurricular achievement and has demonstrated commitment to the plastics field.

Seth E. CookA Dean’s List student who is also minoring in mathematics, Cook serves as a mentor for freshmen in the college’s plastics majors and interned the past two summers at Key Plastics in Felton and York Imperil Plastics in York. Cook earned an associate degree in plastics and polymer technology from the college in 2015.

“The plastics and polymer engineering technology department is thrilled that the SPE Blow Molding Division has recognized Seth with this scholarship,” said Timothy E. Weston, associate professor of plastics and polymer technology and department head. “It is an extremely competitive and prestigious scholarship. Earning it speaks to Seth’s excellence in the classroom and leadership in the plastics program at Penn College. We are very proud of him.”

Cook is the fourth Penn College plastics student to receive an SPE Blow Molding Division scholarship.

“My success is a product of my own hard work combined with the help of my family, friends, teachers, co-workers and those who have so generously supported me at SPE,” Cook said. “I sincerely thank these parties for their continued support, and hopefully, one day I will be in a position to return the favors that I have received."

Upon graduation, Cook hopes to obtain a plastics position where he can focus on improving process methods and, consequently, produce higher levels of automation.

SPE is dedicated to promoting the scientific and educational aspects of the plastics engineering profession. Its Blow Molding Division provides a forum for the promotion and dissemination of information related to blow molding technology.
