Physical and occupational therapists, athletic trainers and physical-education professionals can explore fitness and physical function with an expert physical therapist in a seminar to be offered March 29 at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

In the seminar, entitled "Exploring Function: Practical Trunk and Shoulder Relationships," presenter Brian McEwan will focus on the relationship between the shoulder and the trunk and building functional exercises based on core stabilization. The seminar is being co-sponsored by Susquehanna Health System's Sports Medicine Center and the School of Health Sciences at Penn College.

McEwan, co-owner of Gary Gray Physical Therapy Inc., will take participants through a series of hands-on demonstrations that connect the hip, trunk and shoulder in performing movements and exercise. Professionals who work to strengthen, condition and rehabilitate patients or clients will benefit from the methods demonstrated.

The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bardo Gymnasium on the College's main campus in Williamsport. Personal trainers, certified athletic trainers, physical-education instructors, coaches, physical and occupational therapists, and health-care professionals all are encouraged to attend.

Participants will earn National Athletic Trainer Association Board of Certification and ACT 48 continuing-education units. Approval for additional CEUs is pending. Each participant will be presented with a certificate for the units earned.

The fee for the seminar, which includes a continental breakfast and the course manual, is $195 per person if registration is received on or before Feb. 21. The cost will be $225 thereafter. For Penn College students presenting valid identification at registration, the fee is $25.
