Penn College wrestlers win three on road

Wrapping up the 2019 portion of their schedule on the road, Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers split in a tri-meet Thursday and won two of three matches Saturday.



Wrestling
In action at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati on Thursday, the Wildcats turned back Alma College, 32-16, before falling to the host team, 36-13. The lone double winner for Penn College was Dave Galasso, of East Smithfield, at 184 pounds, with a major decision and fall. Wildcats Colin Jens, of Centreville, Maryland, went 1-0 at 141, as did Lukas O’Connor, of Wyalusing. Finishing 1-1 on the day for Penn College were Ryan Bauer, of Denton, Maryland, at 133; Jesse Walker, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, at 149; Dan Bergeron, of Jackson, New Jersey, at 174; Jared Mooney, of Palmerton, at 197; and Brendan McGinley, of Glenmoore, at 285.

Saturday at the Gator Boot Duals in Nashville, Tennessee, the Wildcats lost to Luther College (Iowa), 45-3, before defeating Augustana College (Illinois), 28-21, and Huntingdon College (Alabama), 24-16, to go to 3-7 on the season. Individually for Penn College, Galasso was 3-0 with two pins at 184; O’Connor was 1-0 at 141; Trevor Crowley, of Hollywood, New Jersey, was 1-0 at 165; and Bauer was 2-1 at 133.

Penn College now is idle until Jan. 11 when it competes in the North-South Duals at Collegeville.

Women’s basketball
Penn College’s game scheduled for Tuesday at Centenary University was postponed by snow. It was announced, however, that an earlier postponed home contest with Wilson College has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 26.

The Wildcats now are idle until Jan. 6 when they go to Marywood University for a nonconference game.
