Penn College Wrestlers End Week on High Note

Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers closed out last week with a pair of wins and the men’s and women’s basketball teams got their seasons under way, going a combined 2-4.
Wrestling
According to coach Schuyler Frey, injuries took a toll in his team’s 55-0 loss at the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Wednesday. "We weren't at 100 percent and we didn't wrestle to our potential," he said.
The Wildcats rebounded Saturday, however, as they opened Penn State University Athletic Conference action with wins over Penn State Beaver, 42-0, and Penn State Mont Alto, 40-9, to go to 3-5 on the season. Five Penn College wrestlers – Ryan Hart, of Wyalusing, at 133 pounds; Tyler Myers, of Centre Hall, at 157; Austin Clark, of Elysburg, at 165; Logan Gresock, of Copley, Ohio, at 184; and Jasper Ocker III, of Burnham, at 197; each went 2-0 on the day. Myers now is 7-1 for the season with seven pins.
Earlier in the week, Myers, a junior, was named the PPSUACe Wrestler of the Week for the period ending Nov. 11 as he went 5-0, winning all by fall. He is ranked fifth in the 157-pound weight class in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association.
Men’s Basketball
Penn College put up a great fight in its opener Monday against Pitt-Titusville before falling, 56-47. Scott Fenton, of Dickson City, scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Ethan Kline, of Bellefonte, added 12 points while Bryant House, of Columbia Cross Roads, had 10 caroms. The Wildcats shot just 22 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 65-46.
Facing its second big challenge of the young season in the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament at Susquehanna University, Penn College fell to host Susquehanna on Friday, 104-50. Jason Greenfield, of Wellsboro, led the Wildcats offense with nine points.
On Saturday in the consolation game of the Pepsi Tip-Off, Penn College fell to Montclair State University, 107-61. Fenton; Jesse Newman, of Waterfall; and Christopher Carrington, of Ridley Park; each scored nine points as the Wildcats dropped to 0-3.
Women’s Basketball
It was the kind of start that coach Matt Wilt was hopeful of as his Wildcats scored a 68-41 win Monday over Pitt-Titusville. Dana Reed, of Sunbury, scored 14 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Penn College were Jenna Matzinger, of Coudersport, and Mackenzie Brown, of Lititz, with 14 each, and Kierstin Steer, of South Williamsport, with 11.
At Arcadia University on Thursday, Penn College shot just 15 of 61 from the floor in an 81-44 loss. Freshman Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, led the Wildcats offense with 11 points. Matzinger had 10 rebounds.
Penn College closed out a 2-1 week on Saturday with an 84-66 win over Central Penn College. Brown led the way with an 18-point, 13-rebound performance while Danielle Mowery, of Shamokin, and Jamie Steer each added 16 points, Matzinger 12 and Kierstin Steer 10. Kierstin Steer now is 12 points away from becoming the first women’s 1,000-point career scorer in Wildcats history.
