Penn College to Hold 'Fall Visitation Day' on Oct. 30

Pennsylvania College of Technology welcomes prospective students and their families along with other guests who wish to learn more about the college's "degrees that work" during Fall Visitation Day on Sunday, Oct. 30 .
Classrooms and laboratories in the college's eight schools Business and Computer Technologies, Construction and Design Technologies, Health Sciences, Hospitality, Industrial and Engineering Technologies, Integrated Studies, Natural Resources Management, and Transportation Technology will be open for tours, fun and informative demonstrations, and a variety of activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions and gather additional information during "Meet the Dean" sessions in some of the academic areas. General information sessions on admissions, financial aid and academic affairs will be held in the morning. Sessions for those planning to enroll in Fall 2006 will be offered on the hour from 9 a.m. to noon in the Field House; for those planning to enroll in 2007 or later, sessions will be offered on the hour from 10 a.m. to noon in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium.
Visitors are cautioned to arrive early for sessions, as space is limited, and online registration does not guarantee a seat.
Campus tours, led by Student Ambassadors, will begin on the hour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Academic Center, Field House, and Student and Administrative Services Center. Those who are undecided about a career or college major are invited to a session on "Choosing a Major," offered at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Penn's Inn on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center.
Staff from the Counseling, Career and Disability Services Office will be available in Room 204 of the Campus Center for those seeking to learn more about careers, internships and co-ops, job-placement assistance, and other services. Disability Services will offer sessions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Room 201 of the Campus Center regarding accommodations for students with disabilities.
Sample placement tests will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the second-floor wing of the Academic Center. The sample tests will be scored by faculty, who will provide tips on preparing for the actual tests administered to incoming students. Student-housing sessions will provide an overview of on-campus facilities and the housing-application process; sessions will begin on the hour from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the SASC presentation room. Tours of on-campus apartments will begin at the main entrance of each of the four complexes throughout the day, beginning at 9 a.m. Off-campus landlords and information will be available in Room 1049 of the SASC.
Student organizations will offer displays around campus and operate food fund-raisers. The director of athletics will be available in the SASC's second-floor hallway to answer questions about Wildcat sports teams.
The Penn College Library is ripe for exploration, with music, refreshments, tours and displays including a model of the Roger and Peggy Madigan Library, which will open next year. Parents and guests who attended Penn College and its forerunners, Williamsport Area Community College and Williamsport Technical Institute, are invited to stop by the library to register with the Alumni Relations Office.
Food Services facilities on the main campus will be open, including the Susquehanna Room in the Hager Lifelong Education Center, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; CC Commons (the newest main-campus dining facility), 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; The CoffeeHouse, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wildcat Express, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Wrapture, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, Nature's Cove at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center near Allenwood will be open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The College Store in Room 101 of the Bush Campus Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a number of activities of interest to visitors. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., local author Thad Stephen Meckley will sign copies of his book, "Williamsport's Millionaires' Row." At the top of every hour, beginning at 10 a.m., College Store staff will discuss "The Ins and Outs of Textbooks." Starting at 10:30 a.m., and on the half-hour thereafter, guests can learn about toolkits, uniforms and other supplies used in Penn College's academic programs. Those sessions will be held in the rear of the store.
Throughout Fall Visitation Day, The College Store will offer a 20-percent discount on select regularly priced merchandise. Free shuttle buses will be available to transport guests around the main campus from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Free transportation also will take guests between the main campus and the Earth Science Center and the main campus and the Lumley Aviation Center at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville. Those buses will leave main campus on the hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and depart the off-campus sites on the half-hour from 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Advanced Automotive Technology Center, located at 2241 Wahoo Drive, Williamsport, also will be open.
Those staying overnight are invited to a performance by illusionists Jeff and Tessa Evason at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Academic Center Auditorium.
