Penn College to Celebrate National Radiologic Technology Week

Students studying radiography at Pennsylvania College of Technology, along with the radiography program faculty and staff and the college's new Medical Imaging Club, will celebrate National Radiologic Technology Week Nov. 6-12.
Students developed educational posters for display during the week at three of the radiography program's hospital affiliates: Evangelical Community Hospital, Mount Nittany Medical Center and Susquehanna Health.
Medical imaging and radiation therapy save lives. Radiologic technologists those who operate the diagnostic equipment and deliver radiation treatment are an important part of the health-care team. Yet, few people are aware of who radiologic technologists are or what they do. During National Radiologic Technology Week, those professionals take the opportunity to educate the public about their vital role in modern medicine and patient care.
Through its radiography major, Penn College has been educating and training radiography students for 40 years. Since the major's inception, 565 students have graduated and found employment throughout the United States, assuming leadership roles in radiology departments, according to Robert Slothus, director of radiography at the college.
National Radiologic Technology Week also celebrates the discovery of X-rays on Nov. 8, 1895 by Wilhelm Roentgen at Wurzburg University in Germany. Roentgen was experimenting with a type of Crookes tube when he discovered X-rays.
