Pennsylvania College of Technology students claimed four of six $5,000 national scholarships offered by the Oil and Energy Service Professionals.

The recipients, all of them enrolled in the college’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology major, are: Evan J. Aigeldinger, of Broomall; Michael J. Boylston, of Carmel, N.Y.; Roger C. Bruso, of Feeding Hills, Mass.; and Thomas Daros Jr., of North Salem, N.Y. Bruso is a repeat winner, having been twice awarded OESP scholarships at Springfield (Mass.) Technical Community College before his transfer to Penn College.

“The granting of these scholarships is monumental for our students. It is evident that the oil and energy service industry finds Penn College students to be dedicated, motivated and worthy of such recognition,” said Marc E. Bridgens, dean of the School of Construction & Design Technologies. “We are thankful for the industry support and proud of our students and the professionalism they exhibit.”

Applicants were required to write 500-word essays about their goals in the oil and energy field and what appeals to them about the industry. Endorsement by mentors was also part of the scholarship criteria.

“While Penn College usually has one winner each year, this is the first time more than two students have won in a particular year,” said Richard C. Taylor, co-department head and associate professor of plumbing and heating. “Congratulations go to our fine students and our HVAC program.”

Each of the awards carries major support from a company or group in the industry. In the case of Penn College’s 2014 honorees, scholarship benefactors are Honeywell, OESP’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter, Taco Inc. and Weil-McLain.

Originally known as the National Association of Oilheating Service Managers, OESP comprises about 1,500 professionals who service the energy needs of the northeast portion of the United States.
