Penn College Soccer Teams Ranked 1-2 in USCAA Poll

Pennsylvania College of Technology is only in its first year as a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and already two of its teams are ranked at No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation.

In the second USCAA poll released Wednesday, the Penn College women's soccer team, which won its first three matches, is ranked No. 1 and the Penn College men's soccer team, which won its first four matches, is tied for No. 2.

The Penn College women posted wins over Penn State Abington, 2-0; the Elmira (N.Y.) College Jayvees, 5-0, and Columbia Union College, 4-0, for a rating of 5.00 in the poll. Warren Wilson, N.C. and Robert Morris in Springfield, Ill. are tied for second place with ratings of 4.00.

The Penn College men have a rating of 4.50 and share the No. 2 spot with Briarcliffe, N.Y. Columbia Union, Md., is in the top position with a rating of 4.833. Penn College owns wins over Penn State Beaver, 3-0; Penn State Abington, 1-0; Penn State Scranton, 2-0, and Pitt-Bradford, 3-1.

"In our initial year in the USCAA, it's extremely exciting for our programs to get the kind of national recognition that I think they have deserved for a long time. It's a really, really positive thing for the Penn College athletic program," athletic director Mike Stanzione said.
