Penn College Soccer Teams Fare Well in Late-Week Matches

After early-week losses, Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s and men’s soccer teams had good outings late in the week against teams that came into their North Eastern Athletic Conference matches with perfect conference records.



Men’s Soccer
At home Sept. 14 against Cazenovia College, the Wildcats lost, 1-0, when the visitors scored in the 87th minute. Penn College goalkeeper Hector Guerrero, of Mexico City, Mexico, had six saves on the day. Penn College managed six shots on goal, but couldn’t convert.

Tristan Smith, of Sandys, Bermuda, scored for Penn College in the 55th minute and goalie Guerrero had eight saves as the Wildcats tied conference unbeaten Keuka College, 1-1 in overtime, at home on Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 3-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the NEAC.

Women’s Soccer
Facing Cazenovia College on Sept. 14 at home, Penn College lost, 4-3. Penn College had 14 shots on goal to 11 for the visitors, and Valeria Passalacqua, of McAlisterville, scored twice for the Wildcats, but it wasn’t enough. Also scoring for Penn College was Robyn Beddow, of Lancaster.

Hosting Keuka College on Saturday, Lindsey Bradshaw, of Bristow, Virginia, scored at the 41:37 mark on an assist from Morgan Lutz, of Milroy, and keeper Colleen Bowes, of Wayne, stopped 12 shots as Penn College scored a 1-0 victory and handed Keuka its first NEAC loss of the season. Penn College, which had just five shots on goal during the match, improved to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Cross-Country
At the Dickinson College Long/Short Races on Saturday, the Penn College men finished last among 35 teams in the 8K race and 34th of 36 teams in the 4K race while the Penn College women placed last among 35 teams in the 6K race and 35th of 40 teams in the 4K event. Individual leaders for Penn College were Nathan Mashack, of Bloomsburg, who was 189th in 31:49 in the men’s 8K; Brandon Stevenson, of Oil City, who was 230th in 16:50 in the men’s 4K; Jessica Wiegand, of Montoursville, who was 219th in 31:18 in the women’s 6K; and Kristine Loomis, of Tunkhannock, who was 275th in 23:06 in the women’s 4K.

Women’s Tennis
After two postponements, Penn College got its season underway Tuesday with a 9-0 loss to Misericordia University.

On Thursday, the Lady Wildcats suffered a similar fate against Lebanon Valley College, losing 9-0 to drop to 0-2 overall.

Women’s Volleyball
Playing their first match in 11 days, the Lady Wildcats saw their four-match win streak end against Alfred State College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-16) on Wednesday.

Back in action Saturday, Penn College split in two NEAC matches, losing to Wells College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22), and beating Morrisville State College, 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18). Courtney Gernert, of Palmyra, led the Wildcats with 28 digs on the day while Sophie Coldsmith, of Gettysburg, tallied 39 assists. With the split, Penn College improves to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC.
