Penn College SIFE Team Is Runner-Up at Regional Competition

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Students in Free Enterprise team was chosen as a first runner-up in its division at the recent 2003 SIFE Regional Competition and Career Opportunity Fair in Reston, Va.
SIFE encourages students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-life situations and to better their communities through education-outreach projects.
Penn College's SIFE Team presented a Web-page-design workshop for the Lycoming County community, helped the College's Counseling and Career Services Office inform students of employment opportunities, and offered "Project Russia," teaching high-school students about the Russian economy and culture, as well as helping the College host five Russian librarians who visited Williamsport through the Open World Program at the Library of Congress.
The team also hosted a recent panel discussion on issues faced by women in business and is developing e-commerce clubs in area high schools.
At the SIFE competition, teams gave oral presentations and were evaluated on creativity and innovation, the results of their educational programs, the success they demonstrated in utilizing resources, and the documentation of their activities.
The Penn College SIFE students were accorded honorable mention for participating in the National Entrepreneurship Month special project event. In addition, Alexander Kantor, Harrisburg, and Anthony T. Eisenhour, Middletown, both received the Presidential Service Leadership Award for devoting more than 100 hours each to the promotion of entrepreneurship.

Dr. Dennis Williams, associate professor of business administration, serves as adviser for the Penn College SIFE Team. He was named a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in recognition of his leadership and support of the SIFE program at the College.
Founded in 1975, SIFE is a nonprofit organization active on 1,400 college and university campuses in 33 countries.
