Penn College Shotokan Karate Club Hosts East Coast Camp

In formation behind Penn College coach George T. Vance Jr., martial artists prepare for a belt-promotion event last fall.Multiple training sessions and a tournament were included as the Penn College Shotokan Karate Club hosted the East Coast Collegiate Karate Union camp this past weekend. The two-day camp featured Sensei Robin Reilly, an internationally known karateka and author of four books on karate training. He is a member of the Shihankai for the International Shotokan Karate Federation, the upper echelon of technical expertise. Representing Penn College at the camp were John B. Preine, Kody R. Dibble, Jason S. Murphy, Destiny R. Barto and Timothy L. Pegg. The kata (forms) team of Preine, Dibble and Barto placed third; Preine also placed second in purple belt kumite (sparring). Next up is the East Coast Championships in April, hosted by Salve Regina University in Rhode Island, and the club will host a belt-promotion event the third week in April.
