Penn College Ranked Among ‘Best Colleges for Veterans’

In recognition of its services to veterans and active service members, Pennsylvania College of Technology earned Top 10 status among regional colleges in the northern United States in the “Best Colleges for Veterans” 2014 rankings published by U.S. News & World Report.
Penn College is ranked No. 6 in the category Regional Colleges (North).
U.S. News produced its inaugural Best Colleges for Veterans rankings, released on Veterans Day, to provide military veterans with data on which top-ranked schools offer benefits to veterans and active service members that can help them pursue a college education.
To be included in the Best Colleges for Veterans rankings, colleges must be numerically ranked in the 2014 edition of U.S. News Best Colleges, be a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium, be certified for the GI Bill and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
“We are delighted to be recognized by U.S. News for our commitment to our veteran students,” said Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour. “These students provide an invaluable service to the nation; when they choose Penn College as the place to continue their education, we strive to ease their transition to college life.”
A record number of veteran students, 345, are enrolled at Penn College for the Fall 2013 semester, including 110 new students. In addition to offering employment and academic guidance, the college presents its graduating servicemen and servicewomen with honor cords to adorn their commencement gowns.
The college also maintains a Veterans Portico and Veterans Fountain in front of the Breuder Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Center on the main campus.
“I am so proud to have the hard-working staff of Penn College be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for all that the college provides for those who have served in the military,” said Dennis L. Correll, associate dean for admissions and financial aid. “We are strong believers in creating opportunities for those who have served in the military – providing them a solid educational base to establish themselves back in the workforce. We consider it an honor to help them be successful.”
In addition to the U.S. News ranking, Penn College has earned “Military Friendly” status for five consecutive years from Victory Media. The designation is reserved for the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that recruit and retain military and veteran students and provide the best experience to such students.
